Semester Exam Exemption Policy
As communicated at the beginning of the school year, Blount County Schools policy now allows some students to be exempt from their final exams at the end of the semester. This exemption refers to teacher-made exams and does not exempt students from state-mandated End-of-Course tests. Semester exams will be held Dec. 14 and 15, with makeup exams on Dec. 16. Students earn exam exemption on a class-by-class basis by meeting the following criteria:
- 4 or fewer absences per class (excused or unexcused–field trips do not count as absences)
- Passing the class
- Having no in-school or out-of-school suspensions
Students will be specifically notified of their exemption status by each teacher. Students who are exempt will not have to attend school on Dec. 14, 15, or 16. Students who are not exempt must take their exams, and testing periods will not be interrupted for student check-outs.
